    Railways to compensate man with Rs. 75,000 for inconvenience

    What's the story

    In a complaint pertaining to 2013, the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC) awarded Rs. 75,000 to Delhi-based Vijay Kumar, who suffered inconvenience on his train journey.

    The Indian Railways were told by the state consumer commission that one-third of the compensation towards the man will be deducted from the ticket checker's salary as he had failed to help the aggrieved man.

    The tale of train: Farmer now owns the Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi

    In Mar'17, a farmer, Sampuran Singh who had moved to court seeking compensation for his land acquired by Northern Railways became the owner of the Swarna Shatabdi train.

    The court had ordered the Railways to compensate the farmer and its failure to do so led to the judge attaching the train to the farmer's name.

    The court also ordered attachment of station master's office.

    Railways asked to pay Rs 1 lakh to tortured youth

    The National Human Rights Commission directed the Railway Board to pay Rs. 1 lac as compensation to a man "beaten and hanged upside down from the window" in the Patliputra Express for 4 hours in Madhya Pradesh.

    Railway Board was asked to submit a compliance report within 6 weeks.

    3 alleged perpetrators were also arrested by the police in this matter.

    Man suffered inconvenience on his train journey

    On 30 March 2013, Delhi resident Vijay Kumar had experienced inconvenience while travelling by Dakshin Express from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi.

    Kumar said that people from Bina Station in Madhya Pradesh had occupied his reserved berth and also caused inconvenience to him and other co-passengers.

    Moreover, when he tried to complain to the TTE or another official, no one could be found.
