How will the Budget session be held?

Interestingly, this Budget session will be the government's last full-fledged budget before the 2019 LS elections. The first part of the session will be held from January 29 to February 9. After a recess, the parliament will again meet from March 5 till April 6.

    2017 controversies

What were the controversies surrounding the earlier budget session?

Meanwhile, in 2017, controversies marred Budget proceedings.

The Modi-led government brought the budget forward by a month to February 1. Due to assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab etc., opposition protested against this move. They wanted the budget to be presented in March, as per norm.

Moreover, government also ended the presentation of a separate railway budget. It was merged with the general budget.
