    What's the story

On Tuesday, social activist Swami Agnivesh was allegedly attacked by BJP Yuva Morcha workers in Jharkhand's Pakur area.

Swami Agnivesh, who is now under medical care, alleged that the attack was sponsored by the BJP Yuva Morcha and the ABVP.

The reason behind the attack isn't clearly known as of now, owing to different reports from different publications.

    Why?

Why was the attack carried out? Reports vary

The 78-year-old was reportedly visiting Jharkhand to attend an event and was staying at the Muskan Hotel.

According to the Indian Express, the assaulters were upset with Agnivesh's comments defending the consumption of beef.

Meanwhile, the Financial Express reported that the assaulters attacked Agnivesh because he was allegedly inciting the tribals in the district on the directions of Christian missionaries and Pakistan.

    Do you know?

    Agnivesh was attacked in 2011

Swami Agnivesh has been attacked earlier also. In 2011, while on a visit to Gujarat, he was slapped by a Mahant for allegedly saying that the ice lingam of Amarnath was "artificially made" and that the annual Amarnath Yatra was a religious deception.
