    What's the story

The kin of a deceased Muslim Ola driver, who had gone missing on August 9, is furious as the Uttar Pradesh police cremated his body, instead of burying him.

40-year-old Mohammad Yusuf never returned to his Delhi's Sadar Bazaar residence after leaving on the aforementioned date.

His family registered a missing person's complaint. Later, they learned he was cremated in Mathura's Ol village.

    The murder

Backstory: Yusuf was murdered and dumped in a canal

Yusuf had reportedly gone to drop off a passenger and didn't return. Later, he was found murdered on August 10. His hands were tied at back, and he was dumped in a canal.

Notably, Ola informed his family his last traced location was Jhurvai, Mathura, and his GPS went off around 12:19 AM.

They didn't give information about the passenger who boarded his cab.

    Defense

Police claim they cremated body after no one established contact

According to laws, police have to wait for 72 hours before disposing of an unidentified body.

The police said they cremated him after no contact could be established with the family. They claimed to have searched bordering villages.

Chowki-in-charge Bipin Kumar said they couldn't find an ID card on him. Hence, they could not establish his religion.

Post-mortem would have shown he was circumcised: Yusuf's sister

But the cremation, 200 km from his home, has miffed the family. They called it callousness of UP police.

"When they did his post-mortem, they should have seen that he was circumcised. They could have at least waited for us," said Yusuf's elder sister Atiya.

Speaking about the case, SHO of Farah police station, Virender Singh, said, the post-mortem would reveal nature of injuries.
