    What's the story

The Indian Army reported that three infiltrators were likely killed in two separate operations along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district on Thursday.

In the Tangdhar area, one terrorist was believed to have been killed, while two others were reportedly gunned down in the Machhal district.

The Army launched these operations in the Machhal and Tangdhar sectors during the night between Wednesday and Thursday based on intelligence inputs.

    Successful operations

Joint operation of police and army

In an X post, the army wrote, "Based on intelligence inputs regarding likely infiltration bids, a Joint anti-infiltration Operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice on the intervening night of 28-29 Aug 24 in general area Tangdhar, Kupwara."

"One terrorist is likely to have been neutralised. The operation is in progress," the post said.

    Response

Security forces respond to suspicious activity

Local reports suggest that security forces in Machhal opened fire after detecting suspicious movement under adverse weather conditions. This led to the likely neutralization of two infiltrators.

The operations were confirmed by the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, which stated, "Suspicious movement was observed in bad weather and was engaged with effective firing by troops; two terrorists are likely to have been neutralized."

    Election security

Infiltration attempts coincide with upcoming assembly polls

The infiltration attempts coincide with the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Nominations for the first phase have already been submitted.

The Election Commission of India has announced that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections will be conducted in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with results to be declared on October 4.
