IIS officers hope new I&B minister will reverse Irani's orders

Following the removal of Smriti Irani as the Information and Broadcasting minister, the association of Indian Information Service (IIS) officers now wants her orders of mass transfers that were initiated in November 2017 to be reversed.
The association is set to meet the new Information and Broadcasting minister, Rajyavardhan Rathore, next week.

"We are hopeful that the [new] minister will consider our request to revisit the decision, as mass transfer of officials has led to weakening of institutions and has led to wastage of human resource," said an official from the IIS Officers' association.

The association of IIS officers had earlier written to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) about mass transfers of the cadre initiated by then I&B minister Smriti Irani.
The association had further alleged that the transfers initiated by Irani were in violation of rules and established practices.
It had also alleged that transfer orders were issued without consulting heads of media units and their requirements.

Several divisions and functions had been affected by Irani's decisions
"Information dissemination and functioning of many divisions such as the Press Information Bureau, the directorate of audio visual publicity, news production in AIR and Doordarshan have also been impacted by these transfers," added an official from the Press Information Bureau, on the condition of anonymity.
