#HealthBytes: Tips to re-ignite the sexual spark in long-term relationships

    What's the story

A healthy sex life is crucial to a couple's overall mental, physical and emotional well-being.

However, with the passage of time, the sexual spark, that is there in the beginning, might begin to fade away in long-term relationships or marriages.

Although this is quite normal and happens to a lot of couples, here are tips to re-ignite the spark back in your sex-life.

    Alternate Intimacy

It's not always about the intercourse

Sometimes, taking the focus off the climax can help.

Couples who feel a reduced sense of sexual desire over a period of time are advised to practice alternate forms of intimacy.

These could be anything from mutual massage to showering together, cuddling or even going on a date (yes!).

This will help improve the emotional equation between the partners, ultimately resulting in better sex.

    Setting the mood

Rushing from office to bedroom: Not a good idea

It is common sense that in long-term relationships and marriages, things are bound to get routine and monotonous.

This implies that you're not always in the mood for sex, like new couples are.

So, what a couple needs here is to try and set the mood before getting busy under the sheets.

Watching TV together, sitting for coffee, going for a walk can help.

    Communicate

Get to talking terms (about your sex life!)

    Communication about sex is vital.

In long-term relationships, couples might start taking each other's likes and dislikes for granted.

    But unfortunately, it doesn't help.

It is imperative to consistently communicate about what you would and wouldn't like your partner to do, in bed.

If done right, sexual communication will help you get more satisfying as well as safer sex.

    Health

Take care of your health and fitness

A major cause for unsatisfying sex life in long-term relationships is bad mental or physical health, poor body image or lack of confidence.

That's why it is important to take care of your psychological as well as physical health.

Exercise regularly as it will keep you physically fit and improve your confidence.

Also, eat healthy- it'll help improve your performance in bed.

    Information

At the end of the day, just have fun

In the end, remember that sex is no competition, with anyone. As long as you and your partner are happy with what you're doing in bed, that's all what matters. So, be playful and try new things- above all, just have fun.
