    What's the story

    In yet another case of mob violence against cops, a police constable was killed in stone-pelting by protesters today in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur.

    The incident took place this afternoon, only hours after PM Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting in Ghazipur.

    This comes just days after Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was shot dead on 3 December in the Bulandshahr violence over alleged cow slaughter.

    Cops intervened in a protest by Nishad community members

    The police constable, identified as Suresh Vats, reportedly died after being hit by a stone thrown by a protesting mob.

    He was among the cops posted at Ghazipur's Nonhara police station who were returning from duty at PM Modi's public rally.

    These cops were ordered to intervene in a protest organized by Nishad community members, who blocked a highway, demanding reservation.

    What exactly happened?

    When the cops reached the protest site to intervene and evict the protesting members of the Nishad community, the mob started pelting stones at the police team in which Constable Vats was killed.

    Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has directed the Ghazipur District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police to take immediate action and arrest the accused.

    The Chief Minister also announced a Rs. 40 lakh compensation would be given to the police constable's wife and Rs. 10 lakh compensation for his parents, said a press release from the CM's Office.
