    What's the story

A day after two persons, including a police inspector, were killed in mob violence over alleged cow slaughter in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the incident.

Further, the UP Police have named 27 people in an FIR.

Five, including the main accused - Yogesh Raj from Bajrang Dal - have been arrested.

    Here's more.

    Violence

Protesters pelted stones, opened fire on the police

A protest by Hindutva groups against alleged cow slaughter escalated into violence on Monday, when the protesters stared attacking the police personnel who were sent to placate them.

The protesters reportedly pelted the police with stones, and even fired guns at the police, prompting police to open fire on them.

The violence left police inspector Subodh Singh, and a 21-year-old dead.

    Murder

The injured Subodh Singh was murdered in cold blood

It's understood that Singh sustained an injury in the violence, and was profusely bleeding.

While he was being rushed to a hospital in an SUV, some of the protesters gave chase in a car, cornered it in a field, and shot Singh.

A chilling video of the incident shows Singh's limp body in a police SUV, and voices are heard saying "goli maaro" (shoot him).

    Aftermath

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has announced compensation for Singh's family

Following the violence, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced compensation for the family.

Rs 40 lakh was announced for Singh's immediate family, while Rs. 10 lakh was announced for the deceased police inspector's parents.

The UP government has also promised a government job to Singh's son, Abhishek.

Notably, Singh had been the first investigating officer in the Dadri lynching case.

"My father wanted me to be a good citizen who doesn't incite violence in society in the name of religion. Today my father lost his life in this Hindu-Muslim dispute, tomorrow whose father will lose his life?," an aggrieved Abhishek told IE.
