    What's the story

As we celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called him a "stalwart who made the world a better place and connected India, in letter and spirit, in thought and action" in his blog he wrote on The Times Of India.

"The noble thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi have given strength to millions across the world," he tweeted.

    Modi writes

Mahatma Gandhi remains essential in the 21st century too: Modi

The premier wrote that the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi remain essential in the 21st century as they were in his time and offered solutions to several problems the world faces.

"At a time when inequalities are not uncommon, Bapu's emphasis on equal and inclusive growth can herald an era of prosperity for the millions on the margins," Modi wrote.

    Stand united

"Gandhi made every Indian feel they're working for India's freedom"

"He instilled the spirit of self-belief that everyone, in whatever they were doing, they were contributing to India's freedom struggle," Modi wrote.

"In the same light, today, let us embrace those aspects we think we can act upon that will fulfil Gandhiji's vision. It can start with something as simple as ensuring zero-waste of food to imbibing values of non-violence and togetherness," he added.

Modi also paid homage to Lal Bahadur Shastri

While he wrote a blog for Gandhi, Modi didn't forget to mention Lal Bahadur Shastri who shares his birth anniversary with the Father of the Nation and visited Vijay Ghat to pay homage to him.

"Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji epitomized strength and simplicity. He led India at a crucial time and worked hard to make our nation more prosperous," Modi tweeted, sharing a video.
