    What's the story

In another attempt to rid Bihar of social and civic malpractices, the Nitish-Kumar led government will now sack its employees if found demanding or promoting dowry and child marriage.

While launching the campaign earlier this month on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), Kumar had urged everyone to boycott the weddings that involve these social evils.

Read on to know more about the new directive.

    Measures

Abatement of child marriage may soon be a criminal offense

Bihar is taking several measures to ensure successful implementation of the new scheme. It will take strict action against religious leaders who facilitate such practices and is planning on making abatement of child marriages a criminal offense.

A mobile application 'Bandhan Tod' has been launched to raise awareness on resisting child marriage and providing assistance to adolescent girls in need of help.

    Operations

Bihar Women Development Corporation responsible for scheme's successful implementation

Kumar was inspired to initiate the campaign after women requested him for it during one of his public interactions.

Bihar Women Development Corporation has been assigned to send directives to various departments and district administrations to ensure smooth functioning of the scheme at various levels.

In order to sensitize the public about the campaign, Nitish Kumar will create a human chain on January 21.

    Information

New directive aims to change Bihar's image

This initiative is one among a series of measures taken by Nitish Kumar to cut down on hooliganism and unawareness in Bihar. Last year, the state government notified the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016, and also banned the sale and consumption of liquor.
