Delhi traffic-police creates green corridors to help 2 critically-ill patients

The Delhi Traffic Police provided special 'green corridors' to shift two critically-ill elderly patients to hospitals from the airport, police said yesterday.
One corridor was created Wednesday for the transfer of a 55-year-old woman to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) while another one was created for a 75-year-old man, who was rushed to the Escort Fortis Hospital, Sukhdev Vihar.
First case
The woman had flown from Bareilly to Delhi for treatment
The 55-year-old woman, suffering from a severe cardio-neuro disorder, was brought from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh to the national capital for treatment.
The convoy of vehicles carrying her started from Terminal-1 at 12.46PM and reached AIIMS in just 22 minutes, after covering a distance of about 12kms, against the usual travel time of an hour, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Alok Kumar, said.
Second case
Vehicle of another patient reached Fortis in just 30 minutes
In the second case, the 75-year-old, who suffered multiple heart attacks, was flown from Kolkata to Delhi.
The carcade carrying him started at 1.55PM and covered 22kms to reach Escort Fortis Hospital in just 30 minutes, without disturbing the traffic on road, the officer said.
The normal travel time on this route during the peak hour traffic is around one to one-and-a-half-hour, he added.

Green corridor refers to a special road route that enables harvested organs meant for transplants or critically-ill and emergency patients to reach hospitals. Since organs have short preservation time, such corridors ensure that the in-transit organ arrives at its destination in shortest time possible.
