From next year, CBSE board exams to start in February
What's the story
From the next academic session, Class X and XII students of CBSE will have to sit for their board exams a month earlier, in February.
As of now, the schedule is spread across March 1-April 20.
The exam will also get over in 30 days instead of the current 45.
This will automatically advance declaration of results too, which currently come in May last.
Why?
CBSE kills many birds with one stone
These are part of CBSE's attempts towards "error-free evaluation". The board believes earlier completion of the process will help students with their undergraduate admissions.
Moreover, many teachers aren't available after April, when vacations begin. So CBSE plans to attract the "best and experienced" ones for evaluation by advancing the schedule.
This will also give more time to CBSE in order to ensure error-free results.
Criticism
In 2017, students as well as the board suffered
This year, CBSE came under widespread criticism for wrong results. After re-evaluation, some students' marks rose by as much as 400%.
Though many students said they were doubtful of the marks awarded by CBSE, they didn't apply for re-evaluation in fear it would delay their undergraduate admission process.
Meanwhile, the board's decision to shelve its re-evaluation policy is being heard in court.
