    CAT 2018: All about dates, registration, paper pattern, seat availability

    What's the story

    The online registration for Common Admission Test (CAT) 2018 for admissions to major B-Schools of India, including the premiere IIMs began on August 8 and shall conclude on September 19.

    The admit cards will be released on October 24, and the exam is scheduled for November 25, 2018.

    Registration

    How to register online for the CAT exam 2018?

    First off, log on to the CAT exam website. Next, click on 'New Candidate Registration' link to generate your ID and password.

    To proceed with your application, login using your freshly created ID and password, and enter details such as personal information, academic record, details of your work experience (if any), programmes opted, and test city preference to fill up the five-step application form.

    Registration last step: Payment of application fee

    After filling out the application form, proceed to the payment section. The various modes of payment available are Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, and e-Wallets. Select your mode, and pay. Once the payment is successful, a registration confirmation e-mail will be sent to you.

    What is the application fee for CAT exam 2018

    The application fee for general and OBC-non creamy layer candidates is Rs. 1,900, while in case of reserved category students (SC/ST/PwD), the registration fee is Rs. 950. However, some additional charges might also be levied, depending on your mode of payment.

    Paper Pattern

    What is the exam pattern for CAT 2018?

    CAT 2018 is a computer-based test (but not online- you'll have to be present at the test center).

    The exam comprising 100 questions in total, is divided into three sections, namely- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DI & LR), and Quantitative Ability (QA).

    The exam's duration is 3 hours or 180 minutes.

    There will two types of questions in the CAT exam

    Out of the total 100 questions, 30 shall be non-MCQ type, and will not carry any negative marking penalty. The remaining 70 questions will be MCQ type, and you'll be penalized 1/3 mark for each wrong answer to questions in this category.

    The various Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have a total annual intake of 3,265 candidates. Out of the total seat availability, 27% seats are reserved for OBC category students, 15% for scheduled caste (SC) category, 7.5% for ST category students, and 3% for PwD candidates.
