    What's the story

Film director Kundan Shah, known for classic movies like 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro' (1983) and TV shows like 'Nukkad' (1986), died this morning after a heart attack. He was 69.

According to reports, the director passed away in his sleep.

Shah was one of the many directors who had said they would return their National Awards in protest against growing intolerance in the country.

    Filmography

    Shah's track record was legendary

Shah, an FTII alumnus, was known for cult movies like 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa' (1993) and 'Kya Kehna' (2000): the latter left a mark as a signature feminist movie in Bollywood.

He also created unforgettable shows for TV like 'Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi' (1984), still considered one of the best comedy shows on Indian television.

His last movie 'P se PM Tak' released in 2014.

    Tributes

Condolences poured in on social media. "The man who made us laugh our heart out is no more! Shocking!" tweeted Resul Pookutty.

"Kundan Shah's strength lay in his integrity. On screen and off it. For him the simple was sublime. Heart in the right place," posted Filmfare Managing Editor Farhana Farook.

"(Kundan Shah) is gone…(but) He lives on…," said filmmaker Vikram Bhatt.
