    What's the story

Wonder Woman was one of the few DC superhero hits in recent times. Notably, it was the first standalone female superhero film.

The sequel, Wonder Woman 1984 is currently in the works and is scheduled to release on June 5, 2020.

However, director Patty Jenkins is already thinking ahead and has ideas for the third film in the franchise.

    Read about her ideas here.

    Wonder Woman

Her journey: From World War-I to 1980s, to the present

Wonder Woman's journey in films has been spectacular.

She partook in World War I in the first movie and faced Ares, the god of war.

The second film will see the Amazonian in the 1980s facing Cheetah, a new villain.

In contemporary settings, Wonder Woman has already appeared in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 and Justice League in 2017.

    Plans

Director lays out future plans for Wonder Woman's character

At the Sundance Film Festival, Jenkins revealed her plans for the future of Diana of Themyscira.

Speaking of Wonder Woman 3, she said to The Hollywood Reporter, "I'm not set, but I'm not dying another period piece".

Referencing another article by The Hollywood Reporter, suggesting Wonder Woman 3 be set in the future, Jenkins spoke of her plans to make the third film contemporary.

    Story arc

Only way is to move forward with character, Jenkins believes

Jenkins believes the only way to go with Wonder Woman's character, is to move forward.

She said, "I'm not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It's definitely a contemporary story. That's all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven't totally nailed down".

    Comments

Jenkins has a clear vision for Wonder Woman's complete story

Jenkins might be unsure of Wonder Woman 3's details, but she has a clear idea of how she wants to see the entire story of Wonder Woman pan out, irrespective of her directing the third movie.

However, she asserted the arc should be completed as a standalone movie since she felt it was too early for a sequel to the poorly received Justice League.
