'Wonder Woman' gets new release date, Gal Gadot announces

    What's the story

Amidst several failed ventures, 2017 saw the release of 'Wonder Woman'. The film gave franchise fans hope that DC could still make good superhero movies.

It established Gal Gadot as DC Extended Universe's new star and shot director Patty Jenkins to fame.

Warner Bros. immediately ordered a sequel, with both women reprising their respective roles.

However, it has now been pushed back to 2020.

    New date

When will the film be released?

Gadot, who plays the Amazonian princess Diana, announced that the sequel 'Wonder Woman 1984' would be pushed back to June 5, 2020. The film was originally slated for November 1, 2019 release.

She said that she was super excited that the changing landscape allowed the new film to be put back to its rightful home and urged fans to 'be there or be square'.

    Twitter Post

    Check out what Gadot tweeted

    Warner Bros' stand

    All about the market advantage

Gadot and Warner Bros. are in agreement about their excitement surrounding the sequel's new release date.

President of domestic distribution, Jeff Goldstein said that the move landed the film exactly where it belonged.

He admitted, "We had tremendous success releasing the first 'Wonder Woman' film during the summer, so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did".

    Opinion

How the date change might benefit the film

The 'Wonder Woman' sequel will see old co-star Chris Pine return besides new additions like Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig.

Since the film has been pushed back, Jenkins will now have more time to fine-tune the directorial process and edit the film thoroughly.

Moreover, the strategic release ensures the sequel does not have any competition yet, on the opening weekend, ensuring better box-office collections.

    Upcoming films

A new direction for DC Extended Universe

For fans who are frustrated at having to wait several more months for the 'Wonder Woman' sequel, DC does have two exciting films coming out in 2019.

Both 'Shazam!' and the 'Joker' standalone movie are expected to make waves at the box office.

Notably, 2020 will be dominated by DC's female superheroes, as 'Wonder Woman' will arrive a few months after 'Birds of Prey'.
