Gurucharan Singh, best known for playing Roshan Singh Sodhi in the hit sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), has opened up about his personal struggles.
In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Singh revealed he has a debt of ₹1.2cr.
To note, the 51-year-old actor returned to Mumbai in July after a month-long absence in April and has been actively seeking work for the past month.
Financial struggles
Singh discloses financial woes, need for work
During the interview, Singh expressed his financial difficulties and the need to find work.
"I have been in Mumbai for a month looking for work," he said, adding, "I want to earn money to manage my expenses...I need money because I have EMI and credit card payments. I still have to ask for money and some good people lend me but my debt is accumulating."
"I want to work because I also want to take care of my old parents."
Diet change
Singh reveals he's been on liquid diet for 34 days
Singh also disclosed that he has been on a liquid diet for over a month, having given up solid food.
"I have left food for the past 34 days...I have been on a liquid diet like I have milk, tea, and coconut water."
"I have seen only failure for the last four years. I have tried to do different things, businesses and all but everything is failing. Now, I am tired," he said.
Debt details
Singh owes ₹60 lakh to banks, credit card companies
Further, the actor provided details about his debt situation, stating that he owes ₹60 lakh to banks and credit card companies.
He also owes an equal amount to individuals who have lent him money out of kindness, bringing his total debt to nearly ₹1.2cr.
"Some kind people I know have lent me money, and I owe them an equal amount. In total, my debt amounts to nearly ₹1.2 crore."
Absence explanation
When Singh clarified reason for his absence
Despite rumors suggesting that Singh's disappearance was due to financial difficulties, the actor clarified in an earlier interview that it was part of a spiritual journey.
Singh was reported missing in April and finally returned home after 26 days.
Upon his return, Delhi Police officials discovered that he had embarked on a religious journey during his absence. The officials confirmed that Singh visited Gurudwaras in Amritsar and Ludhiana during this period.
