Karenjit Kaur Vohra was a Punjabi from Ontario who moved to the US in her teens before making her debut in the porn industry in 2000.
This is when she changed her name to Sunny Leone for safety reasons.
The bisexual pornstar is the first girl of Indian descent to sign a contract for adult video production company Vivid Entertainment.

Sunny Leone was listed among the top 12 pornstars by Maxim magazine in 2010.
She made her Indian debut as a contestant on Bigg Boss Season 5 in 2011, from where her Bollywood career took flight with 'Jism 2'.
She was listed on the 45th position on Forbes Top-100 celebrity list in 2015 and was also the 'Most Googled Indian' for four consecutive years.

"They consider newcomers shady, they think who's this"
On #NoFilterNeha, Sunny confessed industry bigwigs weren't even willing to share stage with her initially.
"I was sitting there for very long because they couldn't find somebody to go on stage with me. Somebody told Daniel and then Daniel told me," she said.
Was it her past? More her newness, she thinks: "When a new person comes in, it's like they think it's shady."
Life
Despite the fame, Sunny prefers a relaxed social life
Recently, photos of her Kochi visit where she was welcomed by thousands went viral.
"People try to hurt you…but numbers are something real. (The photos) just confirm in my head that I'm in the right place," she said.
But she hasn't made many friends. "I only meet people when I'm working…People get weird, it's not me they want to know, it's someone else."
