    What's the story

Actor and producer Stephen Graham is amazed by the sudden popularity of his new web series Adolescence in India.

The four-part series, which Graham co-created and starred in, was released on Netflix on March 13 and topped the platform's global most-watched list.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Graham expressed his disbelief at the show's success in India, "I got a text from a mate of mine, telling me how big Adolescence is in India."

    Unexpected reach

Graham's initial focus was on the UK audience

Graham was initially expecting Adolescence to pull UK viewers. However, he never saw it going all the way to India.

"And my first response was, 'Hold on, did you say India?! Did I hear you correctly? Apparently it's really striking a nerve there," Graham said.

He added, "It's like we dropped a stone into this pond, and the ripple effect it's produced has been unbelievable."

    Show's concept

Inspiration behind 'Adolescence' and its gripping storyline

Graham revealed the idea of Adolescence struck him on a car ride with his close friend Philip Barantini.

He took inspiration from real-life incidents that had been bothering him for a while and wondered about the mindset of teenage boys committing violent crimes.

The series revolves around a 13-year-old boy who brutally murders his schoolmate.

Graham, Owen Copper, Erin Doherty, and Ashley Walters star in lead roles.
