    What's the story

The official title teaser for Thalaivar 171, a highly-anticipated film starring legendary actor Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is finally out!

The movie is now titled Coolie.

This marks the first collaboration between Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth, stirring excitement among fans.

It is being produced by Sun Pictures, who previously partnered successfully with Rajinikanth on films like Jailer, 2.0, and Petta.

    Character clues

Rajinikanth's look sparked expectations for what's coming!

The first poster—released last month—featured Rajinikanth in a fierce demeanor, complete with his trademark villainous smirk.

However, what really sent fans into a frenzy was the new poster of the actor's right hand which was adorned with an iconic silver kada (bracelet), a recurring accessory in most of Kanagaraj's films.

Whether it's Thalapathy Vijay's films like Master or Leo, or Kamal Haasan's Vikram, this kada has been upheld for quite some time.

    Casting whispers

The rumored cast added to the intrigue

Adding to the intrigue of the forthcoming film is the rumored involvement of actor Shruti Haasan in a significant role.

While official confirmation is pending, there are whispers that Haasan might portray Rajinikanth's daughter in the film.

Speculation also surrounds renowned actor Sathyaraj's potential participation, which would mark a reunion of both actors on screen after several years.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is gearing up for Thalaivar 170, titled Vettaiyan—set for release in October.

    Standalone speculation

'Coolie': A standalone film in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe?

Despite rumors that Coolie might be part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), it has been reported that Rajinikanth requested a standalone movie.

For those unaware, LCU is a shared universe of Tamil-language action thriller films created by Kanagaraj.

The first feature of the universe is Kaithi (2019).

Following its success, the second installment, Vikram, hit screens in 2022, followed by the third installment, Leo, in 2023.

Notably, Leo emerged as the highest-grosser among all LCU films.
