Meghan Markle's former supporter says she lied on Netflix show

    What's the story

Once a staunch supporter of Meghan Markle, Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan has now cast doubt over the authenticity of Markle's recent Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

Ryan, on her podcast Telling Everybody Everything, said that after watching the show, she feels Markle has "lied about knowing who Prince Harry was" and that certain details about her childhood "don't add up."

    Discrepancies

Ryan highlighted discrepancies in Markle's childhood stories

Ryan highlighted inconsistencies in Markle's stories regarding her childhood.

She emphasized that Markle said she ate "TV dinners growing up" in her new Netflix series, a claim that Markle's estranged brother later condemned as "malarkey."

However, Ryan pointed out that Markle previously said in an interview, "We would eat farm fresh."

Ryan said that "her whole act just seems very manicured and very forced."

"It's too manicured it's too beige."

    Perception

Ryan doesn't see Markle as a 'bad person'

Despite her criticisms, Ryan clarified that she doesn't see Markle as a "bad person."

Rather, she thinks the former actor revels in the celebrity lifestyle and loves her new life.

"I would rather that than this act of 'Oh, I'm just so humble,'" Ryan said, adding, "Of course. But I would rather someone lean into that and be like, 'Oh my God, I used to be on Suits and now I'm married to a prince.'"

    Show success

Ryan discussed the show's success and Markle's name change

Ryan also tackled the success of Markle's Netflix series, which has already been greenlit for a second season despite mixed reviews.

She implied Netflix's strategy may be "throwing Markle under the bus where even people who really liked her are turning."

In the series, Markle emphasized her last name is now Sussex.

But, Ryan theorized it's Markle's way of keeping her title, Duchess of Sussex.
