    What's the story

Amazon Prime Video's upcoming animated series, Secret Level, has released a teaser trailer that hints at the inclusion of a short film based on FromSoftware's Armored Core video game series.

The surprise element is that the short film appears to star Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves.

Secret Level, set to premiere on December 10, is being produced by Tim Miller and Blur Studio—the team behind the first Deadpool movie and Netflix's Love, Death & Robots.

    Trailer breakdown

Checked twice, and it seems like Reeves!

In the trailer, a character strikingly similar to Reeves makes a brief appearance.

While further details about the character's identity or whether it is indeed Reeves have not been revealed, the official Armored Core social media account confirmed that this character will feature in an episode focused on the mech-action series.

Reeves has been involved in several video game-related projects recently, including his role as Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, set for release later in 2024.

    Fan reaction

Reeves's involvement sent a wave of excitement among fans

The possibility of Reeves starring in an Armored Core adaptation has excited fans for two reasons.

Firstly, Reeves is a highly respected actor known for his roles in iconic films such as The Matrix and John Wick, as well as his performance as Johnny Silverhand in the video game Cyberpunk 2077.

His involvement suggests that top Hollywood talent can contribute to video game adaptations in a meaningful way.

    Series background

'Armored Core': An unexpected choice for adaptation

Another reason is Armored Core is a relatively obscure video game series to be adapted for an Amazon Prime show.

The series is known for its intense mech battles, harsh post-apocalyptic sci-fi settings, and minimalist yet effective writing and storytelling.

The pilots in these games are typically enhanced with various cybernetic modifications and are tasked with suppressing their existential crises by engaging in combat using massive weapons.

    Fanbase

'Armored Core' fans display strong loyalty

While Armored Core may not be as well-known as other FromSoftware games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, its fanbase is extremely dedicated.

This is evident from a five-and-a-half-hour YouTube explainer on Armored Core VI's story, which has garnered over one million views.

Despite the game's niche appeal, the involvement of Reeves in the adaptation could potentially attract a wider audience to the series.
