Heartbroken Kangana Ranaut announces 'Emergency' is postponed

    What's the story

Kangana Ranaut, the Bollywood actor and BJP MP, announced on Friday that her much-anticipated political drama film Emergency has been postponed.

The movie, in which she portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was initially scheduled for release on Friday (September 6). However, the film faced setbacks due to controversies.

"With a heavy heart I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed," she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

    Certification delay

    'Emergency' awaits certification from CBFC

In her X post, the 38-year-old actor mentioned that her film is still awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

"We are still waiting for the certification from the censor board, the new release date will be announced soon, thanks for your understanding and patience," she wrote.

This statement contradicts earlier reports suggesting that Emergency had received clearance from the CBFC.

    Controversy and support

'Emergency' faced backlash and certification hold

The film has been embroiled in controversies, facing backlash from several Sikh groups.

Despite initial clearance from the CBFC, Ranaut stated that the film's certification is currently on hold due to numerous death threats against members of the censor board.

"There have been rumors circulating that my film Emergency has been certified by the Censor Board. This is not true," she clarified earlier on X.

    Scene removal

'Pressure to remove certain scenes from the film'

Ranaut also mentioned that there is pressure to remove certain scenes from the film.

"There is pressure being put on us to remove certain scenes, such as the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the Punjab riots, and more."

"Now, I don't know what else to show. What are we supposed to do—blackout the film during these scenes? This is unbelievable to me," she added.

    Criticism

    'Emergency' criticized as 'anti-Sikh film'

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has labeled Emergency as an "anti-Sikh film."

Harjinder Singh Dhami, the President of the committee representing the Sikh community, accused Ranaut of making expressions that provoke Sikh sentiments.

He also questioned the CBFC and demanded a Sikh member on the board.

Despite these challenges, sources close to India Today suggest that Ranaut remains hopeful for a release in "the next 10 days."
