    What's the story

The trailer of John Abraham's upcoming political thriller, The Diplomat, was dropped on Friday.

The film stars a stellar cast including Sadia Khateeb, Sharib Hashmi, Revathy, and Kumud Mishra.

It was unveiled on the birth anniversary of former Union Minister of External Affairs, the late Shri Sushma Swaraj. And, the trailer pays tribute to her significant role in 2017 in helping Indian diplomat JP Singh's mission to bring an Indian woman home from Pakistan.

    Character insight

Abraham's character uses diplomacy as a weapon

In The Diplomat, Abraham plays the real-life Indian diplomat JP Singh, who goes on a dangerous mission to rescue Uzma Ahmed from captivity in Pakistan.

The film highlights the power of diplomacy and negotiation over warfare.

Speaking about the film, Abraham said, "Diplomacy is a battlefield where words carry more weight than weapons."

"Playing JP Singh allowed me to explore a world where power is defined by intellect, resilience, and quiet heroism."

    Career shift

'The Diplomat' marks a new direction for Abraham

The Diplomat, directed by Shivam Nair, marks a departure for Abraham as he takes on a role that focuses on strategy, intellect, and negotiation, which is quite a contrast from his previous action-packed roles.

The film will hit the screens on March 7, 2025. It is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar along with Abraham himself with Vipul D Shah, Ashwin Varde, and Rajesh Bahl among others as co-producers.
