John Abraham's football film '1911' shelved indefinitely: Here's why

    What's the story

Actor-producer John Abraham has confirmed that his film 1911, which was to chronicle the historic IFA (Indian Football Association) Shield victory of Mohun Bagan in 1911, is on hold indefinitely.

The movie was backed by his production house JA Entertainment and was set to feature Abraham in the role of football legend Shibdas Bhaduri (who captained Mohun Bagan).

Initially slated to be directed by Shoojit Sircar, Nikkhil Advani later took over as director.

    Future prospects

Abraham expressed hope for a future revival of '1911'

Despite the pause, Abraham's still hopeful about the project's future.

He said in an interview, "Unfortunately, that film's not happening because we've been through a lot of processes...and the idea sounds good."

"But we've seen a lot of films on football...But do we want to make it? Yes, in the future. We've parked that for now."

In the historic IFA Shield final, MB secured a 2-1 victory against the East Yorkshire Regiment—becoming the first Indian team to win the tournament.

    New project

Meanwhile, Abraham is in talks for Rakesh Maria's biopic

Apart from 1911, Abraham is also said to be in talks for a biopic on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria. The movie will be produced by filmmaker Rohit Shetty.

Confirming this, Abraham said, "The Rakesh Maria biopic is in the discussion stage. I haven't signed a single film. I'm waiting for the release of The Diplomat and then I've got an exciting film, Tehran."

    Upcoming releases

Abraham's upcoming films: 'The Diplomat' and 'Tehran'

Abraham will be seen in two upcoming films: The Diplomat and Tehran.

In The Diplomat, directed by Shivam Nair and based on a true story, he will play Indian diplomat JP Singh. The film will be released in theaters on March 14.

Tehran, on the other hand, is ad filmmaker Arun Gopalan's feature directorial debut and also stars former Miss World Manushi Chhillar.
