    Deepika talks about playing acid-attack survivor in Meghna Gulzar's next

    What's the story

    After her spectacular performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat', Deepika Padukone is all set to enthral us with another exciting project now.

    She has collaborated with Meghna Gulzar for her next which will be based on acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

    Deepika even mentioned that the story had such an impact on her that she decided to produce the movie.

    Laxmi's story

    Laxmi Agarwal is more than just an acid attack survivor

    Laxmi Agarwal suffered an acid attack at the age of 15 after she rejected a man's marriage proposal.

    She underwent several surgeries before she could start a new life. She now promotes campaigns against acid attacks.

    Laxmi also received US State Department's International Women of Courage Award in 2014 from the former First Lady of United States, Michelle Obama.

    Deepika turns producer for the first time

    Talking about the movie, Deepika revealed that Laxmi's story had a deep impact on her.

    She was so deeply moved by the story that she decided to turn producer for this Meghna Gulzar directorial.

    "When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it's not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory," Deepika told Mumbai Mirror.

    Only Deepika could do justice to this story, says Meghna

    Notably, this will be Meghna Gulzar's first project with Deepika and she is all praises for the actress.

    Meghna is confident about Deepika doing justice to the role and said that she was her first choice.

    "I was instinctively convinced that Deepika would do justice to the character and the story," she added.

    Well, this will certainly be a movie to watch out for.

    Laxmi's story needs to be told, says Meghna

    Meghna, who was highly appreciated for her last directorial 'Raazi', is looking forward to directing Laxmi Agarwal's story.

    "Using Laxmi's story as a lens, we are attempting to explore these aspects and the consequences of acid-related violence in our society," she added.

    Meghna feels it is a story that needs to be told as only awareness will bring a change in society.
