Veteran South Indian actor Sathyaraj, known for his iconic role as Katappa in Baahubali, is reportedly set to play PM Narendra Modi in a forthcoming biopic.
Industry tracker Ramesh Bala confirmed the news on his official X, formerly Twitter, handle, stating, "Veteran Actor Sathyaraj to act as #NarendraModi in Honourable PM #NarendraModi Biopic, (sic)."

Sathyaraj is known for embodying Periyar E. V. Ramasamy in the 2007 biographical film Periyar.
Beyond his portrayal, Sathyaraj is known for consistently praising the social activist, regardless of the political platforms he attends.
Given this, it has come as a surprise to his devoted followers that he is now taking on the role of Modi, a figure known for advocating Hindutva policies.

This will not be the first time PM Modi's life has been adapted for the screen.
A biopic directed by Omung Kumar and featuring Vivek Oberoi was released in 2019.
The trend of films focusing on current affairs and historical milestones under Modi's leadership has led to several portrayals of the politician.
For instance, Mahesh Thakur played Modi in the 2019 online series Modi: Journey Of A Common Man, and Lalji Deoria portrayed him in a Gujarati film.

In this regard, ABP Tamil Nadu reached out to actor Sathyaraj's daughter, Divya, for a comment.
She responded, "We have also received information about Sathyaraj acting in the biopic of Prime Minister Modi. We expect an official announcement regarding this film next week."
Addressing the surprising choice of Sathyaraj, she explained, "Look at it as a character rather than a principle. If you play a villain in a movie, do you have to be a villain in reality?"

Meanwhile, Sathyaraj will soon be seen in 'Weapon'
In addition to the biopic, Sathyaraj will soon be seen in Weapon—the sophomore work of writer-director Guhan Seniappan.
Earlier this week, the official trailer was released, offering a glimpse into the action-packed world of the film.
Vasanth Ravi plays a member of a gang of assassins on a mission to kill Sathyaraj's character, who is described as a "gangster," "ghost," and "superhuman."
Weapon is slated to hit theaters on May 23.
