The latest installment in the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, has made a strong debut at the box office, raking in $41.5M domestically and amassing a global collection of $113M.

With this impressive performance, it has gone past Deadpool & Wolverine, which previously dominated the box office for three consecutive weeks.

The latter now sits in second place with a $29M opening weekend.

Now, Disney holds the top two spots at the North American box office.

Disney's success this year has been further boosted by the performances of Romulus and Deadpool 3.

The studio accounts for 42% of the US summer box office, remaining in the No. 1 position for eight out of 16 weekends.

This includes Inside Out 2, which has become the highest-grossing animated film of all time with global earnings of $1.626B, and Deadpool & Wolverine, which holds the title for the highest-grossing R-rated film with worldwide collections of $1.143B.
