    What's the story

Fahadh Faasil's latest Malayalam film, Aavesham, directed by Jithu Madhavan, continues to captivate audiences and dominate the box office.

Since its release on April 11, the movie has consistently performed well, amassing over a staggering ₹125cr globally by its 19th day (Monday) in theaters.

Despite a modest budget of a reported ₹30cr, Aavesham has exceeded expectations and set new records in the Malayalam film industry.

    Rankings

'Aavesham' is among 10 highest-earning South Indian films this year

On Monday, the film maintained a Malayalam occupancy rate of 26.5%, generating a net total of ₹1.85cr for that day alone.

The film's domestic earnings have now reached an impressive ₹68cr.

To note, Aavesham currently holds the title of the fourth most successful Malayalam film of 2024, following Manjummel Boys, The Goat Life, and Premalu.

It also ranks among the 10 highest-earning South Indian titles this year.

Set in Bengaluru, Aavesham follows the story of three migrant Malayali college students: Bibi (portrayed by Mithun Jai Shankar), Aju (known as Hipster), and Shanthan (played by Roshan Shanavas).

They come together to protect the new students from hazing but end up being kidnapped and subjected to brutal treatment by their seniors for two days.

The film features supporting appearances by Midhutty, Sajin Gopu, and Mansoor Ali Khan.

    Acclaim

    Director Madhavan praised Faasil's performance

In a recent interview, Madhavan expressed his admiration for Faasil's portrayal in the film.

He stated that the 41-year-old actor was his first choice for the unique character of Ranjith Gangadharan due to his undeniable talent and immense energy similar to Ranga.

Madhavan believed Fahadh could deliver and he exceeded their expectations.

Madhavan also shared how he persuaded Faasil to accept the role of Ranga in Aavesham.

    Production

'Aavesham's production: An ambitious project that exceeded expectations

Madhavan revealed that after sharing the story with producer Anwar Rasheed and later with Faasil, they planned to start shooting for the project in late 2023.

However, Faasil was eager to begin as early as February.

Despite initial concerns due to this being a more ambitious project than his debut film Romancham, Madhavan found that production proceeded smoothly once they began filming in Bengaluru.
