Delhi: Heavy rains finally cool down city; waterlogging reported

Monsoon activity over Madhya Pradesh and northern winds finally brought some relief to Delhiites from the hot and sultry weather as the city and its neighboring areas witnessed heavy rainfall and thunderstorms yesterday.
The temperature in Delhi dropped by seven degrees to 27.5-degree Celsius due to the showers.
However, waterlogging and massive traffic jams have been reported in many parts of Delhi.

Delhi's first proper monsoon spell
Yesterday's showers were the first proper monsoon spell in Delhi, which witnessed a hot and humid weather earlier in September. Day temperatures were up to 26-degree Celsius while night temperatures around 30-degree Celsius. According to Meteorological department, Delhi-NCR would also witness heavy rains today.

Rainfall recorded in the national capital
Before 22 September, Delhi received a paltry rainfall of 6mm on 6 September, as recorded by the nodal Safdarjung observatory.
However, yesterday, the Safdarjung observatory recorded a rainfall of 18.4mm between 8:30am and 5:30pm.
During the same period, the Palam observatory at the Delhi airport, recorded 17mm rainfall, while the Lodhi Road, Ridge, and Ayanagar centers recorded 22.3mm, 22.7mm, and 24mm rainfall, respectively.
