    Bengaluru: Now, an app to help you evade potholes

    What's the story

    A group of four classmates from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, have invented an app which warns users about the potholes on the road.

    The app measures the intensity of potholes with a gyroscope or gyro sensor present in a smartphone.

    The application is crowd-sourced and works best on users' experiences.

    Bengaluru: Cop arrested for running hi-tech sex racket

    A head constable from Bengaluru Police has been detained for allegedly running a hi-tech prostitution racket that would seek customers online; it was also equipped to run on cashless transactions.

    The constable, Karibasappa was sent to judicial custody in Parappana Agrahara central jail.

    Procedures for his dismissal are ongoing.

    Nagaraj considers Kattapa's apology, Bengaluru bandh called off

    Sathyaraj, the actor who plays Kattapa in Baahubali 2, issued an apology through a video on Facebook where he spoke in Tamil and accepted that his statements on the Cauvery issue hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas.

    Vatal Nagaraj, leader of the pro-Kannada organizations said that Sathyaraj's apology was taken into consideration.

    Bengaluru will no longer be on a day-long bandh on 28th April.

    Namma Metro services to pause due to checks

    Ahead of inauguration of services in May, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited will conduct tests on the North-South line between Sampige Road and Yelachenahalli stations.

    Due to this, Namma Metro commuters won't be able to avail its services on stations between Rajajinagar and Sampige Road from Monday-Wednesday.

    Borewells

    Government's drive to cap borewells remains unsuccessful

    Judging by Kaveri's accident in Belagavi and several others across Karnataka, the government has become lax towards open borewells.

    In 2014, Karnataka's Government wanted to shut down 1.5 lakh abandoned borewells across the state.

    The guidelines issued included the requirement of landowners to take permission from local authorities before digging borewells and for ensuring their regulation.

    10mm of rain can submerge 7 Bengaluru localities

    According to a Karnataka State Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) report, the city of Bengaluru has 174 flood-prone spots.

    The report also reveals that as little as 10mm rain can flood seven localities of Bengaluru.

    According to the report, the situation has been caused by lack of space for rainwater percolation and the poor state of drainage network.
