Gurugram becomes the most polluted city in NCR region

The air quality in Gurugram was reported to be in the 'very poor' category recently, even after the city witnessed a drop in temperature.
The city recorded a 65% increase in the concentration of particulate matter (PM) and became the most polluted city in the NCR region, in comparison to Delhi and Noida.

Pollution level
City recorded highest level of PM2.5 last week
According to a report, while the city recorded the highest level of PM2.5 at 149.97 micrograms per cubic metre on Thursday, it was 90.70 micrograms per cubic metre on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the highest level of PM2.5 was 92.75 micrograms per cubic metre and it was 91.76 micrograms per cubic metre on Monday.
Reason
Dip in wind speed reason behind rise in PM2.5
According to the MET department, the reason behind the sudden rise in the PM 2.5 levels was due to the dip in wind speed.
A MET official said, "The wind speed declined from 0.50 metre per second to 0.29 metre per second on Thursday. This could be one of the major reasons for the higher concentration of particulate matter in the lower atmosphere."

To prevent dust pollution, action is being taken: HSPCB
However, to decrease the pollution level in the city, Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has assured to implement graded response action plan (GRAP).
An official said, "We will implement GRAP as per the guidelines. Strict action to prevent any kind of dust pollution is being taken. The sudden increase in the pollution levels is a result of low wind speed and weather conditions."
