    Karnataka:Study finds examples of gender stereotyping in NCERT books

    What's the story

    A study conducted by Action Aid India, a child rights NGO, found glaring examples of gender bias and gender stereotypes in primary school NCERT textbooks.

    In most stories, men are portrayed as accomplishing great feats while women are glorified for their kind and understanding nature.

    Action Aid will take take the study to NCERT.

    Below normal rainfall sparks drought fear in Karnataka

    The below-normal rainfall in many areas of Karnataka in June has sparked fears of yet another spell of drought and the government has decided to induce artificial rain as an alternative in mid-July.

    According to authorities, Karnataka's 21 districts have received less than the normal rainfall ranging from 662mm till June 27.

    The IMD has predicated normal southwest monsoon across the country this year.

    Karnataka CM postpones RERA meeting to June 30th

    The implementation of Karnataka Real Estate Regulation Act (RERA) hit a roadblock after the meeting scheduled for Wednesday with CM Siddaramaiah, officials and representatives of homebuyers, who have been advocating for RERA, was postponed to June 30.

    The meeting was postponed as Siddaramaiah had to visit New Delhi on Wednesday to sign as one of the proposers for the UPA's Presidential candidate Meira Kumar.

    Bengaluru Institute: India's livestock contributes only 10.63% to methane emissions

    A study conducted by National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology (NIANP) revealed that India contributes just 10.63% to the global methane emissions by domesticated animals.

    Cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats contribute immensely to methane emissions. Methane is considered 25 times more harmful for environment than carbon dioxide, the main gas responsible for global warming.

    India houses 15% of the global livestock population.

    BBMP officials acquitted after witnesses fail to show up

    The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate acquitted BBMP's three Palike officials as witnesses didn't show up for hearing, regarding the October, 2014 incident in which a 9-year-old girl fell into an uncovered drain and got washed away.

    The girl's aunt had filed a police complaint, alleging that BBMP's employees had carried out maintenance work on the drain that day and left it uncovered.

    Two editors file a joint petition in Karnataka High Court

    Editors of two Kannada tabloids filed a joint petition in Karnataka High Court, seeking a stay on state assembly's one-year jail term.

    Their counsel said,"The legislative assembly does not have the authority to convict and sentence the two editors."

    Journalists Ravi Belagere of Hai Bangalore and Anil Raju of Yelahanka Voice were held guilty by assembly of writing "defamatory articles" against a few MLAs.
