    Cabinet clears controversial Mekedatu project for parched Bengaluru

    What's the story

    The controversial Mekedatu project on the Cauvery, for a reservoir with 66.50 tmcft capacity, was cleared by the cabinet. It will be presented to the Central Water Commission and Cauvery Supervisory Committee for approval.

    Bengaluru, which has almost run out of other sources, will receive water from the project.

    400 MW of electricity will also be generated.

    Aero India

    Karnataka invites investments in aerospace from Tata Group

    Large and Medium-Scale Industries Minister R.V. Desphande invited investments in aerospace from Tata Group.

    Deshpande held talks with former Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata for 20 minutes at the Tata VIP Chalet.

    Karnataka is the only Indian state to have an aerospace policy.

    Meanwhile, thousands gathered at the Air Display Viewing Area at Yelahanka on Day 2, in contrast to a dull first day.

    200 residents march for better roads in Nallurahalli, Whitefield

    200 residents, dressed in black, hit the roads and carried placards demanding better roads in Nallurahalli and Whitefield, an end to garbage menace, and better civic conditions.

    Protesters in Mahadevapura walked 1.5 kms from the post office to the Ambedkar Statue, accompanied by drummers.

    Nallurahalli Rising and Whitefield Rising came together for the march, which saw attendees from Garadacharpalya, Hoodi wards and Kadugudi.

    Davis Cup

    Bengaluru likely to host Davis Cup Round 2 tie

    Bengaluru is likely to host the second-round Davis Cup (Asia-Oceania Group 1) tie against Uzbekistan. The match will be held at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association from April 7-9.

    The proposal awaits the All India Tennis Association's nod.

    Players reportedly prefer the venue mainly for its altitude.

    Mahesh Bhupathi will debut as non-playing captain as India would face the Denis Istomis-led team.

    Kempegowda

    Fog, Aero India hits traffic at Kempegowda

    Dense fog worsened movement at Kempegowda Airport, where many flights had already been rescheduled due to the ongoing Aero India expo.

    Operations were suspended from 6:47am to 8:05am. 22 departures and 21 arrivals were delayed, and ten flights diverted.

    Passengers of Indigo 6E 346, scheduled to leave at 9:30am, had to wait in the plane for over three hours. It took off at 5:30pm.

    Robbery

    Four held for robbing people of lakhs in demonetized notes

    Four people were arrested for robbing lakhs, most of it in demonetized currency, in the guise of crime branch officials.

    Two of them asked Ananda, an advocate, to bring his old notes to a Basavangudi hotel to exchange them. The others intercepted him when he was on his way and pretended to confiscate the cash.

    A scooter and a car have also been seized.
