US: To Muslim-named waiter, customer tells 'we don't tip terrorists'

    What's the story

In another incident which shows how racism has deeply ingrained itself in minds of common people, a patron in a United States restaurant refused to tip a Muslim named waiter saying 'he doesn't tip terrorists'.

The waiter named Khalil Cavil shared the bill receipt on Facebook that showed the Islamophobia of the customer.

Cavil's post was shared thousands of times on Facebook.

    The incident

Customer circled Cavil's first name to show his hatred

Cavil works at Saltgrass Steak House in Texas; on July 15 he said he was 'sick to the stomach' to see what the customer had written on the $108 bill.

He had circled his first name to put his hate message across.

A disturbed Cavil wrote on Facebook: I share this because I want people to understand that this racism, and this hatred still exists.

    The name

Cavil's father named his son after his dead friend

Later, Cavil revealed the customer may have assumed he had Middle Eastern roots based on the first name, but his name had a deeper meaning.

Cavil told his father served in the military and had a friend named Khalil. After Khalil died in an accident, his father named him after his friend.

It's unfortunate that this beautiful story was reduced to hatred.

    The action

Welcomed no more: Racist customer is banned from Saltgrass

Extending support to Cavil, the steakhouse's chief operating official Terry Turney said they condemned racism of any kind. "Racism of any form is unacceptable, and we have banned this customer from returning to our establishment," Turney said.

After knowing what happened to him, tons of Facebook users condemned it too.

His post was shared 16,000 times at the time of publishing.

    Support

On Facebook, users pour best wishes for Cavil, slam racism

One of the 6,500 comments read: How I wish we could visit your restaurant right now and be privileged to experience your hospitality.

Another user Israel Rozemberg commented: I'm sorry you experienced this display of ignorant hatred while JoAnn Malina quipped, "Hope they return so you can tell your boss 'I don't wait on maniacs.'"

The support was obviously overwhelming for Cavil.

    Stop racism

In latest post, Cavil tells why speaking up was important

In his latest post, Cavil thanked everyone for their constant support and wrote it wasn't about money.

"It was about shedding a light on racism and sharing the love of Jesus. It was about igniting conversations," he wrote.

As far as the customer is concerned, we hope he got a 'Quit racism, Islamophobia and hatred' lesson from this incident.
