Donald Trump tells hurricane survivor to 'have a good time'

    What's the story

US President Donald Trump, (in)famous for his ill-thought statements, told a survivor of Hurricane Florence to 'have a good time'.

He visited the storm-ravaged North Carolina on Wednesday and displayed a particularly upbeat mood, for reasons unknown.

At least 41 people have died due to the tropical storm and the state has suffered $1.2 billion of 'financial impact', said South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster.

    Conversations

Trump had a lot of questions for locals

Trump's statements easily qualify as tone-deaf. He asked a state official, "How is Lake Norman doing?" and got it's doing fine as the reply.

"I love that area. I can't tell you why," he added.

He asked someone if the yacht washed ashore was his 'boat'. The person denied and he said, "At least you got a nice boat out of the deal."

    Really, what?

    Information

Handing over a food box, Trump makes insensitive statement

Trump's next activity was distributing food boxes containing hot dogs, chips, and fruits to survivors. While handing over the box, he asked one man, "Got it? Have a good time!" This prompted MSNBC reporter to exclaim, "I think he just said, 'Have a good time!"

    Looking back

Showing empathy after disaster isn't Trump's strong suit

It's safe to ascertain Trump fails to do justice to his role of 'consoler-in-chief'. During a visit to Puerto Rico, when a woman told him windows of her home were shaking due to the storm, Trump said, "Have a good time".

He even threw paper towels at the survivors, an act which drew widespread criticism for lack of empathy.

    Did he mend mistakes? No.

    Observation

Separately, Trump termed hurricane 'wettest from water's standpoint'

About the deadly hurricane, Trump made a video where he proclaimed, "This is a tough hurricane. One of the wettest we've ever seen from the standpoint of water."

The video, displaying how inarticulate Trump is, got a plethora of reactions. More so because he didn't speak about other benchmarks to test wetness. Just water?

But he claimed the on-ground work being done is fantastic.
