    What's the story

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York on Monday.

This marked their second meeting within a month and the third interaction in just three months.

Their previous meetings took place in Kyiv on August 23 and at the G7 summit in Italy in June.

During this latest meeting, PM Modi reiterated India's commitment to aiding efforts toward a swift resolution of the Ukraine conflict.

    Diplomatic events

PM Modi's high-profile engagements during US visit

The meeting with Zelensky was part of PM Modi's three-day visit to the United States, where he participated in several high-profile events.

These included the Quad Leaders's Summit in Wilmington on Saturday and an address to a large gathering of the Indian-American community in Long Island on Sunday.

He also spoke at the United Nations's Summit of the Future on Monday and held bilateral discussions with various world leaders.

    Bilateral ties

What PM Modi said after the meeting

Following his meeting with Zelensky, PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter), "Met President @ZelenskyyUa in New York. We are committed to implementing the outcomes of my visit to Ukraine last month to strengthen bilateral relations."

He further added, "Reiterated India's support for early resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and restoration of peace and stability."

    Strategic partnership

Historic visit and future strategic partnership

PM Modi's recent visit to Ukraine was historic as it marked the first-ever visit by an Indian prime minister since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations in 1992.

A joint statement following this visit highlighted both leaders' shared interest in advancing bilateral ties, with an aim to upgrade their relationship from a comprehensive partnership to a strategic one in the future.

They emphasized mutual trust, respect, and openness for the benefit of people in both countries.

    International law

Joint statement by Quad leaders on international law adherence

A joint statement issued by Quad leaders after their meeting hosted by US President Joe Biden on September 21 emphasized their stand for adherence to international law and respect for principles of the UN Charter.

These principles include territorial integrity, sovereignty of all states, and peaceful resolution of disputes.

During these talks, PM Modi highlighted India's consistent stance in advocating for a peaceful resolution through diplomacy and dialogue among all stakeholders.
