    What's the story

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York on Sunday.

During the meeting, PM Modi expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the deteriorating security situation in the region.

He reaffirmed India's unwavering support to the people of Palestine, including continued humanitarian assistance.

The Indian prime minister stressed that only a two-state solution will deliver enduring peace and stability in the region, according to a statement by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The leaders also exchanged views of further strengthening long standing friendship with the people of Palestine.

Notably, India had released its first installment of humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza in July, amounting to $2.5 million.

This aid was channeled through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
