PM Modi conferred with Egypt's highest state honor—'Order of Nile'
What's the story
On the second day of his two-day state visit to Egypt, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the country's highest state honor—Order of the Nile—on Sunday.
The award was reportedly bestowed on him by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi after their bilateral talks in Cairo.
This is the 13th such highest state honor that different countries have conferred on PM Modi so far.

Know about 'Order of the Nile' award
The Order of the Nile (Kiladat El Nil) was established in 1915 by Egyptian king Sultan Hussein Kamel for recognition of the highest public service for the country or humanity, said reports
The state honor was later reconstituted after Egypt became a republic in 1953.
The Order of the Nile is a pure gold collar comprising three square gold units with pharaonic symbols.

PM Modi holds bilateral meetings with El-Sisi, signs MoUs
Before receiving the award, PM Modi held bilateral meetings with El-Sisi over several issues. They also signed important memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during the meeting.
Earlier, he held roundtable talks with his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly.
Modi's state visit to the African country is the first by an Indian PM since 1997. The two countries are expected to elevate their defense and trade ties.

PM Modi visits historic mosque, war memorial
PM Modi earlier also visited the historic Al-Hakim Mosque in Cairo. It's a significant move due to the large presence of the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community in the area that has importance in Gujarat, too.
He also paid a visit to the Heliopolis War Cemetary, a commemorative memorial of nearly 4,000 martyred Indian soldiers who fought in World War I in Palestine and Egypt.

Meeting with popular Egyptian personalities, Grand Mufti of Egypt
PM Modi arrived in Cairo on Saturday on a state visit to Egypt at President El-Sisi's invitation, which he extended in January when he was the chief guest for Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.
During the visit, he has been engaging with Egypt's top leaders and the Indian diaspora.
He met several popular Egyptian personalities, including Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam.
