    What's the story

Air India has issued a statement after a cabin crew member was allegedly attacked by an intruder at the Radisson Red Hotel at London's Heathrow this week.

According to an unidentified source quoted by the Times of India, the event occurred shortly after midnight, while crew members from various Air India flights were staying at the hotel.

The crew member was sleeping when the intruder attacked her with a clothes hanger and dragged her to the floor.

In its statement, Air India expressed its deep distress over this unlawful intrusion at a hotel managed by an international chain.

"We are providing all possible support to our colleague..., including professional counselling. Air India is also working with the local police to pursue the matter to the fullest extent of the law, and with the hotel management to ensure such incidents are not repeated. We request that the privacy of those involved is respected," a spokesperson said.

The victim was taken to a hospital following the assault and is now en route back to Mumbai.

"She was badly bruised, and the intruder tried to escape. The police were called in, and she was taken to a hospital. She could not fly back on duty and a friend from the crew stayed back with her," TOI reported.

    Safety issues

Previous safety concerns raised by Air India crew

Prior to the incident, Air India's crew had expressed safety concerns about the hotel.

Their complaints included inadequate security measures, poorly lit corridors, an unattended reception area, and instances of unknown individuals knocking on hotel room doors.

These issues were brought to the attention of hotel management but were not adequately addressed, The Hindu reported.

The attacker was apprehended and turned over to the police.
