    What's the story

Mumbai Indians pulled off a thrilling four-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 7 of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The match witnessed some brilliant performances from both sides, with Amanjot Kaur and Harmanpreet Kaur shining for Mumbai.

Although this was RCB's first home game of the season, Mumbai just turned out to be the better side as they accomplished the 168-run target in the penultimate ball.

    Match progression

RCB's early setbacks and Perry's resilience

RCB suffered early blows with skipper Smriti Mandhana's innings ending at 26 and Danne Wyatt-Hodge scoring just nine runs.

The team was reduced to 57/4 at one stage, but Australian international Ellyse Perry took it upon herself to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Despite little support from her teammates, Perry continued to attack and scored a commendable 81 runs off just 43 deliveries (11 fours, 2 sixes).

Her brilliance meant RCB finished at 167/7.

    Information

    Perry gets to this feat

With this knock, Perry became just the second batter after compatriot Meg Lanning (777) to complete 700 WPL runs, as per ESPNcricinfo. The former has now raced to 745 runs from 20 games at 57.30 (50s: 6). Her strike rate reads 130.47.

    Chase begins

Amanjot Kaur shines as MI don't start well

In the first innings, Amanjot Kaur was the star for Mumbai, taking three wickets for just 22 runs.

The spinner, who claimed 3/22 in her three overs, had just one WPL wicket prior to this duel.

Meanwhile, the chase didn't start well for Mumbai with openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews leaving early.

Undeterred by this setback, Nat Sciver-Brunt delivered an impressive performance by scoring 42 runs off just 21 deliveries.

    Turning point

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur's crucial knock and Amanjot's heroics

Mumbai Indians's captain Harmanpreet Kaur was instrumental in the match, scoring a vital 50 off 38 balls (8 fours, 1 six).

Harmanpreet has now raced to 645 runs across 20 WPL games at 24 (SR: 140.21). She hit her sixth fifty.

However, the game turned again when Georgia Wareham dismissed both Harmanpreet and S Sajana in back-to-back deliveries.

Despite the pressure, Amanjot kept her cool and played an unbeaten knock of 34 runs that brought Mumbai closer to victory.

    Match climax

16-year-old Kamilini seals victory for Mumbai Indians

The match went down to the wire, with 16-year-old G Kamilini (11*) hitting a boundary on the penultimate delivery to clinch the win for Mumbai Indians.

Kamilini's match-winning four not only clinched the match but also proved her potential as a rising star in cricket.

Meanwhile, Wareham, who returned with 3/21 in her four overs, was the pick of the RCB bowlers.

She now owns 15 wickets across as many WPL games at 24.13 (ER: 8.55).
