    What's the story

There have been a number of times when the whole batting line-up has failed to score but the bowlers have risen up to the situation to take the team out of trouble.

The tail-enders have played some incredible innings, and broken records that any batsman would be proud of.

Let us have a look at some of these bowlers with amazing batting records.

    Ajit Agarkar

The fastest half-century by an Indian

Infamous for his 'ducks', Ajit Agarkar also holds the record of the fastest fifty in ODIs by an Indian. His fifty came in just 21 balls against Zimbabwe in 2000. He scored 67 runs from 25 balls, smashing seven fours and four massive sixes.

Agarkar is also one of the few players who has a century at Lord's, which came in 2002 against England.

    Jason Gillespie

Only nightwatchman to have a double century

The tall Australian pacer made history when he hit unbeaten 201 runs against Bangladesh in 2006, and become the only night-watchman to have a double-hundred to his name.

He shared a 320-run partnership with Michael Hussey, guiding Australia to 581. Gillespie faced 425 balls and batted for 574 minutes.

In his career, Gillespie shared several partnerships to bail Australia out of trouble.

    Ashton Agar

    Highest number 11 scoring batsman

In his debut match during the 2013 Ashes, Australian teenager Ashton Agar scored 98 runs against England. It still remains the highest score by a number 11 batsman in test cricket.

Ashton shared a 163-run partnership with Phil Hughes and helped Australia post a decent total of 280. He also picked up two wickets in the match.

    Shane Warne

A bowler with 3000-plus test runs

Apart from his 708 test wickets, Australian legend Shane Warne scored 3,154 runs in his 145 Tests, with the highest score of 99 which came against New Zealand in 2001.

He holds the record of scoring most runs without a century in test cricket.

Warne had an ability to hit big shots, making him quite a dangerous tail-ender.

    Wasim Akram

The most sixes in a test innings

The Swing of Sultan, Wasim Akram, scored unbeaten 257 runs against Zimbabwe in 1996 to write his name in the history books.

In his innings, he hit 12 sixes, the most by any batsman in a single test innings.

Akram's 257 is also the highest score by a batsman coming to bat at number eight in test cricket.

    Do you know?

Only Indian to score a century during England tour

During India's tour of England in 2007, Anil Kumble was the only Indian player who managed to score a century, in a team that had Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. He scored an unbeaten 110 at The Oval.
