    What's the story

India have racked up a mammoth 247/9 against England in the 5th and final T20I at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

India's record-breaking innings was led by Abhishek Sharma, who slammed the second-fastest century in T20I cricket.

Although England bounced back after the 14th over, Abhishek punished them with riveting strokes.

While Jofra Archer conceded 55-plus runs, Brydon Carse took three wickets (38 runs).

    India's ton

    India's quickest century in a T20I

Despite a blistering start, India lost Sanju Samson early after being invited to bat. However, Abhishek's exploits took India to 50 in the fourth over.

India's team hundred was up by 6.3 overs. As per Cricbuzz, this is India's quickest century in a T20I, going past 7.1 overs against Bangladesh in Hyderabad last year.

Abhishek and Tilak Varma added 100 runs in 7.5 overs.

    Powerplay

India's highest Powerplay score in T20Is

Team India registered its highest Powerplay score (95/1) in T20Is. The hosts broke their previous record of 82 runs achieved against Scotland at the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup and Bangladesh last year.

After six overs, Abhishek was unscathed on 58(21), while Tilak remained unbeaten on 19 from 8 balls.

Varma also cashed in as the Jamie Overton over (fourth) produced 25 runs.

    Century

    Second-fastest century in T20I cricket

Abhishek completed a 37-ball ton, now the second-fastest in T20I cricket (Full Member sides).

He went past Johnson Charles, who slammed a 39-ball ton against South Africa in Centurion in 2023.

Abhishek is only behind South Africa's David Miller (35 balls vs Bangladesh) and India's Rohit Sharma (35 balls vs Sri Lanka) in terms of fastest T20I ton.

    Score

Highest individual score for India; most sixes in an innings

Abhishek eventually departed for a 54-ball 135, now the highest individual score for India in men's T20I cricket. He surpassed his compatriot Shubman Gill's 126* against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in 2023.

Abhishek hammered 7 fours and 13 sixes in Mumbai. He now has the most sixes for India in a T20I, going past Rohit, Samson, and Tilak (10 each).

    Records

    More feats for Abhishek

As per Cricbuzz, Abhishek has become the quickest to reach a T20I ton in terms of overs (10.1). He surpassed South Africa's Quinton de Kock, who took 10.2 overs for his ton against West Indies in Centurion in 2023.

Abhishek now has the most by an Indian batter in the Powerplay of a T20I (58). He surpassed Yashasvi Jaiswal's 53 against Australia in 2023.

    Samson

    Samson departs after explosive start

Samson earlier gave India a flying start, hammering Archer for a six on the match's first ball. He anticipated the short delivery, which he whacked over deep square leg for a six.

Samson attempted the same shot on the over's fifth ball, which also resulted in a maximum. He collected a boundary on the final ball.

However, Wood dismissed Samson in the next over.

    Information

    Samson joins this elite list

As per Cricbuzz, Samson has become only the third Indian to hit a six off the first ball of a T20I. He has joined Rohit Sharma (off Adil Rashid, Ahmedabad, 2021) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (off Sikandar Raza, Harare, 2024) on this list.

India's highest T20I total against England

India's 247/9 is the highest total against England in T20I cricket. This is also India's fourth-highest total in the format. They have crossed the 250-run mark thrice. Notably, India's 247/9 has also become the highest T20I total at the Wankhede Stadium.
