    Legend Virat Kohli has created history by becoming India's most successful fielder in ODI cricket.

    The 36-year-old accomplished the feat during the ongoing 2025 ICC Champions Trophy encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

    He achieved the milestone with his 157th catch in his 299th ODI, overtaking former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin's record of 156 catches.

    Kohli's journey to top ODI fielder

    Kohli, one of the greatest batters, made his ODI debut in August 2008 against Sri Lanka in Dambulla.

    He has played 299 ODIs and has taken 157 catches ever since. This feat puts him third on the global list for most catches in ODI cricket.

    The legendary Mahela Jayawardene holds the world record with 218 catches from 448 matches. Australia's Ricky Ponting follows him with 160 catches in 375 ODIs.

    Kohli's fitness makes him one of the most acrobatic fielders across formats. His agility often results into some captivating catches in the outfield. In the Pakistan game, Kohli took two catches to dismiss Khushdil Shah and Naseem Shah.

    Kohli earlier surpassed the likes of Sachin Tendulkar (140 catches), Rahul Dravid (124 catches), and Suresh Raina (102 catches) in terms of ODI catches by an Indian. He had equaled Azharuddin in India's Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh.
