    What's the story

Former Indian cricketer, Veda Krishnamurthy, has expressed strong confidence in the Indian women's cricket team's performance at the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024.

She anticipates a "very dominant" display from the Indian team in this tournament.

The squad left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where the competition will commence on October 3.

    Here are further details.

    Adaptation crucial

Krishnamurthy highlights importance of adapting to UAE conditions

In an exclusive interview with Star Sports, Krishnamurthy emphasized the importance of adapting to the UAE's playing conditions.

She noted that the team composition remains largely unchanged from the previous tournament in Bangladesh.

The former cricketer also highlighted India's reliance on spinners, particularly Deepti Sharma, who has been instrumental for them.

    Past performance

    India's performance of late

In the 2022 edition of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, India made it to the semi-finals but were stopped by Australia.

Leading up to this year's tournament, they have had a mixed bag of results.

They lost the T20I series against Australia and England earlier this year, but bounced back with two consecutive series victories over Bangladesh.

    Upcoming matches

India's T20 World Cup campaign and warm-up matches

India will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 4 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Prior to this, they are scheduled to play warm-up matches against West Indies and South Africa.

In the previous T20 World Cup, Australia clinched their sixth title by defeating South Africa at home by 19 runs.

    Confidence high

Harmanpreet Kaur confident about India's chances against Australia

Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed confidence in her team's ability to take on Australia in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.

During a pre-departure press conference in Mumbai, she stated that this was the best squad heading for the tournament.

She also emphasized that the Australian team is aware of India's potential to challenge them strongly.

    Unique record

Harmanpreet Kaur set to attain milestone

Harmanpreet will soon become part of an exclusive group known as the Super Six, who have participated in all nine editions of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

This achievement makes her the only Indian woman cricketer to do so.

Other members include Suzie Bates (New Zealand), Sophie Devine (England), Marizanne Kapp (South Africa), Ellyse Perry (Australia) and Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka).
