    What's the story

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will honor cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar with the C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award will be presented at the board's annual gala, the Naman Awards in Mumbai, on Saturday.

Confirming the news to PTI, a BCCI source said, "Yes, he will be the recipient of the C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for 2024."

    Here's more.

    Career highlights

    Tendulkar's remarkable cricket career

Tendulkar, who is widely considered one of the greatest batters in the history of cricket, played an astounding 664 international matches for India.

He also holds the record for most Test and ODI runs in the history of the sport.

Meanwhile, his career featured 200 Test matches and 463 ODIs, both records in their own right.

Notably, Tendulkar has amassed a mind-boggling 15,921 runs in Tests and 18,426 in ODIs.

    Record breaker

    Tendulkar's groundbreaking achievements

Tendulkar was also the first cricketer to score a double century in ODI cricket, which he accomplished against South Africa in Gwalior on February 24, 2010.

Despite his long career, he played just one T20 International.

Apart from his records, Tendulkar was an integral part of India's 2011 World Cup-winning team, which was his record sixth and final appearance in the tournament.

    Legacy

Tendulkar's legacy and the significance of the award

Debuting as a 16-year-old in a 1989 Test against Pakistan, Tendulkar is an icon of cricket.

His skill and presence on the field were so impactful that just his appearance could captivate the nation.

The C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, named after India's first captain Col. C K Nayudu, was instituted in 1994 to honor significant contributions to cricket.

Tendulkar will be its 31st recipient, joining a prestigious list that includes former India head coach Ravi Shastri among others.

    Additional honorees

Other recipients of BCCI Naman Awards

Along with Tendulkar, other cricketing stars will also be honored at the Naman Awards.

The ICC Cricketer of the Year Jasprit Bumrah will receive the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award, while Smriti Mandhana will be honored as the 'Best Women's International Cricketer' for the fourth time.

Additionally, the ceremony will also pay tribute to Ravichandran Ashwin's illustrious career, which came to an end in December last year during the third Test of the BGT.
