India set record for most Test sixes in calender year

    What's the story

The Indian cricket team has smashed a new global record by belting out over 90 sixes in a single calendar year.

This historic feat was accomplished during the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur.

The previous record of 89 sixes was held by England, set in 2022.

Before this, India's best performance was in 2021 when they hit 87 sixes.

    Record-breaking partnership

Rohit, Jaiswal's aggressive batting leads to record-breaking performance

The record was set on Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh, with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal taking the lead.

Their aggressive batting style saw them smash a bunch of sixes off the Bangladesh bowlers.

This achievement is a big deal in cricket history, as no team had ever hit over 90 sixes in a single calendar year since the sport began in 1877.

    Additional records

India also breaks record for fastest team 50

Not only did the Indian team set a new six-hitting record, but they also broke England's record for the fastest team 50 in Test cricket.

They achieved this in just three overs, beating England's previous best of 4.2 overs against West Indies at Trent Bridge earlier this year.

The aggressive batting continued with Shubman Gill joining Jaiswal and Sharma, as India crossed the triple-figure mark in 11 overs, improving their own record set against West Indies at Port of Spain in 2023.

    Fastest milestones

India sets new records for fastest team scores

The record-breaking spree continued as India set new records for the fastest team scores of 150 and 200 in Test cricket.

They reached these milestones in just 18.2 and 24.2 overs respectively, breaking their own and Australia's previous records.

Furthermore, they set a new record for the fastest team score of 250, achieving this feat in just 30.1 overs and breaking England's previous record.

    Individual achievements

Kohli and Sharma achieve individual milestones

The match also saw some cool individual milestones.

Virat Kohli became just the fourth batter to hit 27,000 international runs, joining legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Kumar Sangakkara.

He also broke Tendulkar's record to become the fastest to reach this landmark.

Plus, Rohit Sharma made history by becoming only the fourth batter to hit sixes off his first two balls in a men's Test innings.
