    What's the story

Indian cricketer Suresh Raina underwent a successful knee surgery a couple of days ago.

While it was his second surgery on the same knee, he made the bold decision as it was likely to keep him out of action for a few months.

He is expected to take around six weeks to be completely fit again.

Meanwhile, he released a statement on his future.

    Tough call

Tough call to make for second knee surgery: Raina

Raina said that it was indeed a tough call since it would be putting him out of action for weeks. However, he had to take the call for getting better.

"I wasn't ready for it until a few weeks ago when the pain had gotten a bit much and I knew there was only one way out of this," Raina wrote on Twitter.

    Quote

Raina had undergone a similar knee surgery in 2007

"The issue began way back. It was 2007 when I underwent my maiden knee surgery and later, I was back on the field, giving the game my 100%, all thanks to my trainers & doctors," added Raina.

    Nagging discomfort

Raina also revealed that for the past two years, he was feeling a nagging discomfort on the same knee.

In order to take the load off his knee, his trainers helped him in muscle training to avoid any undue impact on his gameplay.

"I thank my doctors, family, friends, and everyone who has wished me good health & speedy recovery," Raina further stated.

Raina's India future uncertain, as he eyes domestic return

As of now, it is unclear when would Raina be back on the field.

While his estimated return date sounds to be after two months, it remains to be seen how he performs in the domestic circuit.

Raina, known to be a fighting cricketer, surely has the talent to bounce back in style.

However, as far as his international return goes, it looks unlikely.
