Shakib Al Hasan passes bowling action reassessment test: What next?

    What's the story

Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has successfully cleared a reassessment test for his bowling action.

The 37-year-old cricketer had failed the test twice earlier but has now been cleared of any issues with his bowling action.

This comes as a huge relief for Shakib, who was dropped from Bangladesh's 2025 ICC Champions Trophy squad as the selection committee did not want to pick him as a specialist batter.

    Here's more.

    Test trials

Shakib's journey through bowling action controversy

Shakib's bowling action was first scrutinized during a County Championship match for Surrey against Somerset in September 2024.

An independent assessment by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) later deemed his action illegal, leading to his suspension.

He was assessed twice in England and India but sadly failed both times, leading to an extended ban from bowling.

    Test success

    All-rounder relieved after being cleared

Shakib's third attempt at the bowling action test was in England, and this time, he cleared it.

The news was confirmed by Shakib himself who expressed his happiness by saying, "The news is right (passing about the bowling test) and I am cleared to bowl again," as per Cricbuzz.

This successful reassessment clears any doubts surrounding his bowling action and allows him to participate in international cricket events once more.

    Numbers

A look at his all-rounder numbers

Shakib is among the greatest all-rounders across formats. In 71 Tests, he owns 246 scalps at 31.72. His tally includes 19 fifers and two 10-wicket hauls.

According to ESPNcricinfo, in 247 ODIs, he has bagged 317 scalps at 29.52. His economy rate reads 4.46 alongside 10 four-wicket hauls and four five-wicket hauls.

Meanwhile, in 126 T20I innings, Shakib has taken 149 wickets at 20.91, including an economy of 6.81.

He also boasts six four-fers and two five-fers.
